Writing of Best Scenes

Before writing every scene in the script, Judge whether it is useful or not.

While writing a scene:

1. Is this scene related to story, or is it being written for comic relief?

2. Does this scene help the progress of the story?

3.  Is this scene being written to get connected to the viewer?

4. Is this scene being written to elevate a certain character?

Above points should be thought while writing scenes for a movie.

For example :

 

In the movie, Taare Zameen par, there are many scenes in the movie that let viewers understand the plight of Ishaan.

 

In the movie, Lagaan, there are many scenes in the movie that move the story forward.

In the movie, 3 Idiots, there are many scenes in the movie that elevate the hero qualities of Rancho.

 

There can be many scenes that can come as comic relief but there should be sufficient content in those scenes to work. And number of fill-up scenes don’t work well for the movie. Emotion, feel and flow carry are the reasons for the success of the movie.

Conflict Generation Technique :

Knowing your Character's point of view becomes a good way to generate conflict.

For example: Conflict in 3 Idiots.

Hero  Point Of view	Villain  point Of view

- In 3 Idiots movie, Aamir khan has a point of view that Education is not merely for getting a job and settling down, it is more about enriching our lives with Knowledge. He insists to make use of knowledge and put it to use in everyday lives.

Whereas, Professor Sahasrabuddhe has a contradictory point of view.

 He believes that Education is meant to get a job and in order to get a job; it becomes necessary to mug up notes. He doesn't believe in creative freedom. His point of view is that students should feel the pressure to study and bag corporate offers.

- In the same movie, after Joy dies, Rancho questions Professor about his points of view,therefore, Conflicts starts in Professor. That conflict grows in the character of the professor from thereon till the end and till the time he sees his grandson.

 

Main reasons for the flop of a movie -1

 Cinema starts from an idea.

There is a dilemma to put that idea into a particular genre.

-----If we can’t place that idea into a certain genre, that movie flops.

-----Once the genre is decided for that particular idea, the conflict or problem

        should be sketched correctly. It should be seen that the run time runs on

        about that conflict or problem. If that is not done properly, that movie flops.

-----Third reason for that movie to be a flop is failure to establish some characters

        that  highlight that idea.

-----Most importantly, that idea should be presented by valuable content that highlight

       the genre. The content in the scenes are very important as they are lifelines for

       the movie or the movies looks very dull.

For example:

Company, 

 satya,

 Sarkar,

 Gangs of wasseypur are cinemas of Mafia genre.

There are certain characters and characterizations that represent that

genre and it is very important to present that idea according to the

genre. Many movies were released in the mafia genre but only some

clicked. Above points are the main reasons that they clicked.

About Movie Success-1

Nothing will work if you don't have

1. Interesting Character  2. Good story to tell 

For example

1.Hero has an interesting character in the movie," Kick", that is one of the main reasons for the movie to become a blockbuster.

 

What is common between 3 Idiots and PK apart from Writer and director, yes, it is the interesting characters that made those films a blockbuster.

At the same time, Hero had an interesting characters in both the series of Munna Bhai. That is the main reason of the critical and commercial acclaim of Munna Bhai series.

2.Ghajini had an interesting story and it made millions.

Lagaan, Rang de Basanti, Kahaani, Chak de India are some of the examples of the movies that had interesting story.

About Story Line -1

Logline:

If the total story of a movie can be told in a single line, it is called log line or Plot line. If we have to write the log line, we need to know some points.

1. Who is hero?

2. What is the back drop?

3. Villan or opposite force.

4. Conflict or problem.

5. USP

For example: Munna Bhai M.B.B.S

1. Who is hero? Munna Bhai.

2. Back drop? Medical college.

3. Villan or opposite force- Dean of Medical college.

4. Conflict- Duplicate doctor Vs Medical college dean

5. USP- Treatment should be done with love.

Example2: LageRahoMunna Bhai

1. Who is hero? Munna Bhai

2. Back drop- Our society which forgot the virtues and ideals of Gandhiji

3. Villan or opposite force- BomanIrani (a selfish guy)

4. Conflict or problem- Retrieval of seconds Innings house of the heroine.

5. USP- Morals, Virtues and ideals of Gandhiji.

About Story Narration -1

Remove the Complexity :

Utmost care should be taken while narrating the story to the audience. IF audience dont understand the story, they will not flock to the theaters to watch the film even though the film is made from a novel idea.

For example, story of Ghajini.

 

-> Story of Ghajini is very complex.

-> While narrating the story,some thrilling points are kept in the dark of the audience while giving away the plot.

-> The mental condition of hero, his case of memory loss is explained in the first fifteen minutes of the story as it gives a chance for the audience to sympathise with the hero. It allows the audience to go with the flow along with the hero.

->Audience get connected with the love story between the hero and heroine in the flashback as they have already formed an opinion about the hero in the first fifteen minutes. As heroine dies for a social cause, audience has an emotional connect.

->Audience feel that the villan should be killed. Hero works very very hard to reach his goal.

-> Finally, when the hero kills the villan, audience are relieved.

That is the main reason that the movie is a blockbuster.
